Designing for developer productivity

In 2020 I joined the design team in the Platform mission to help design the Spotify open-source platform to build developer portals — Backstage.

Internal tooling

User Research | Design Strategy | User Experience | Prototyping

I led the redesign of an internal tool to make testing of core features simpler for Spotify, from research, to interface design to future vision. I also helped shape the strategy of Spotify’s experimentation platform — Confidence — on how to handle experiments after they are finished.

Identity and Management

User Research | Exploratory mockups | Vision deck

Together with user researchers and product managers, I helped define the strategy for the Identity and Management product area, uncovering opportunities to innovate within the User Account space, using exploratory research and prototyping.

Expanding Sharing of Spotify content

The Sharing Platform

Stakeholder management | UX Design | Cross-team collaboration

For years, sharing at Spotify was just about a menu. In 2021 the Social Discovery team uniformed all the different ways of Sharing content outside Spotify into one single Platform — The Sharing Platform.

I helped implement the strategy by expanding the Spotify platform across other content types rather than Music, from collaborative sessions to Audiobooks and Video Podcasts with the goal to achieve a holistic user experience for Sharing.

Designing for Hardware

Car Thing is an audio player from Spotify, made to be used on a car and interacted through the touch screen, voice and button presses.

Car Thing

User flows | Visual Design | Design practices | Hiring

I joined the Car Thing team for three months to support the development of features such as incoming phone calls, add to queue, voice cues and error messages optimization. I also helped establish design ways of working, introducing design practices to the team and hiring designers.

CarThing has been discontinued, you can read more about it in this press release.

Maturing design through practices

During my time at Spotify I led and contributed to multiple initiatives to mature design on an organizational level and also across my product area.

Platform practices toolkit

UX Design | Information architecture | Visual Design | CMS tools | Cross-collaboration

It has gained visibility on a company level as program managers are using it as inspiration for other hubs and designers, product managers, engineers and agile coaches keep contributing to it and using the existing templates to run workshops. It has also been included in the onboarding of new designers and linked to product, insights and operations onboarding tools.

I used a user-centred, collaborative and easy-to-use approach to start a practices toolkit that is available for everyone that is interested in facilitating collaboration sessions that contribute to more UX drive product development. This collaborative and outcome-focused toolkit contains a set of templates to explore, define, build, ship and evaluate products, as well as, team-building and collaborative activities.
